Author and blogger and American living in Paris Lindsey Tramuta joins me on podcast today to talk about her new book The New Parisienne: The Women & Ideas Shaping Paris (purchase on Bookshop.org). Having called Paris home for nearly 15 years, Tramuta explores the true Parisienne woman, looking past the myth and confining superficial stereotype that has been perpetuated for centuries through introducing readers to 40 Parisiennes in all of their diverse life journeys and talents and passions.

Joining me from Paris, our conversation covers where the myth of the Parisienne woman began, who benefitted from it and how we can shift the narrative to reflect the truth. We also talk about her happy place in Paris, the difference between universal feminism vs. intersectional feminism and with diverse individual profiled, what they all have in common. I do hope you will tune in and have a listen.

Lindsey’s first book The New Paris (2017) is another wonderful Francophile resource to keep on hand as an introduction to new people, places and ideas in the City of Light.

  2. Chère Shannon
Great appreciation for this fantastic interview. Although the audio from the author side was not very clear, unfortunately, it was nonetheless so very interesting and encouraging. Certainly a book I’ll purchase.
    Merci beaucoup Shannon ????

    1. Amanda, Thank you for tuning in. Yes, I had to do some work-arounds to connect with Lindsey and therefore used a different system than I usually do. We made the best of it and she patiently waited for our backup system to be put into place. I am so thankful she did the interview as what she had to share I felt was important. Thank you very much for your interest. 🙂

  3. Hi Shannon.

I loved this episode. I listen to your podcast and always wondered about your target audience.

As a Nigerian immigrant to the United States, I definitely relate to ‘The Danger of a Single story’…and how black women are critiqued based on stereotypes et al.

I hope to hear more episodes on inclusivity and luxurious living.

    1. Ada, thank you for sharing and for introducing yourself. I sincerely appreciated Lindsey’s exploration of this topic. It is long overdue and I know our audience with their open minds is listening. Thank you for your recommendations.

  4. Shannon, thank you for bringing such a wide range of conscious conversations forward. I love the broad, progressive, and long overdue aspirations around inclusivity and the support of all women touched on in this interview. There were so many layers present here…including the pain of each woman’s personal coming of age experiences—a universal struggle no matter where one grows up—in the context of global social justice issues. What a powerful contribution to the world conversation, appreciate this interview so very much. Thank you, Shannon!

    1. Thank you Liz for your insightful and incredibly kind comment. I am grateful for Lindsey’s book and her willingness to accept my invitation to be on the show. We all benefit by reading and introducing ourselves to the women she spotlights.
