Finessing our kitchen so that we have the tools we need is something that takes time, but when you know what tools work best for the meals and dishes you prepare, waiting for a sale is worth it especially if you want to purchase a high-quality Mauviel copper pan, a highly recommended chef’s knife, etc.
Yesterday, one of my closest friends brought to my attention Sur la Table’s weekend sale which runs through Monday. A perfect time to pick up those cook’s tools you have patiently been waiting for. However, it wasn’t the sale that caught her attention; it was a certain cooking class that was now available.
For a special one-day only class (2 hours in length), offered to shoppers/cooks across the entire country in Sur la Table locations on Julia Child’s birthday – August 15th, is Julia Child’s Birthday Celebration Class. Classes are filling up quickly from Alabama to Wisconsin, and just think, we could all be cooking together the following menu:
- Pan Roasted Beef Tenderloin with Red Wine Pan Sauce
- Crispy Potatoes Anna
- Strawberry Brioche Cake with Chantilly Cream
AND, included in your class cost (in Oregon it is $85, not including the 20% discount) you will receive a copy of Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking, Volume II! Additionally, for each place sold Sur La Table will make a donation to benefit The Julia Child Foundation for Gastronomy and the Culinary Arts.
Okay, I have talked to much! Go on and sign up! It’s a Wednesday class, most locations are offering it in the evening. Sounds like a wonderful way to make it through a full week, non?
But don’t forget to shop the sale! I have included a few items that caught my eye below, but you can shop the entire site here. There is very little that isn’t included in the 20% offerings with the promo code CHEF18. And there is free shipping! Click here to begin perusing Sur la Table.

I took a number of cooking classes at Sur La Table in the Pearl District in Portland Oregon. Magnificat. And the more classes one takes, the more special offers are received for additional classes, “Bring a Friend” classes and much more. the wine flows freely as well. High recommended.
Good memories at the Pearl location. I took a class there a few years ago on French pastries and came away with some wonderful recipes and knowledge. Thank you for sharing your experience. 🙂
