45 wins, 59 nominations. That is the number the medical drama series The Pitt has already amassed since it debuted in 2025 and is only a reflection of the success of the first season. The second season, which concluded this past April, is just as stellar if not stronger.
Starring Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael ‘Robby’ Robinavitch, The Pitt turns each hour of a 12-hour day shift in this emergency room for the health care workers into one episode. The real-time job demands each of the doctors, nurses, clerical staff, admin, social service workers, and security staff encounter on any given day in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania’s emergency room is head-shaking to say the least, and evokes immense appreciation for all they endure and expert care they give even under the most stressful of circumstances.
In the second season, the chosen day of observation of their work just so happens to be the Fourth of July. And so, nope, it wasn’t by accident that you are reading this post just before July 4th. As we can only imagine, accidents and unwanted health events rachet up on this middle-of-summer and fireworks-infused holiday, and that means emergency room visits, of which there are aplenty in this 12-episode season.
Along with tending to their patients’ physical needs, societal influences and current events are also written into some of the storylines. The writers’ intentional care with each subject brings us back to the humanity that lies at the heart of what it means to govern, and how each individual and their family is affected, how it affects their choices and the risks they take or don’t take. With each season, I have been impressed by how skillfully these topics have been broached.
Below, I have included the official trailer for season one, but if you have already watched the premiere and multi-award-winning season, here is a link to season two’s trailer. And in case you too are curious, season 3 is already in production in Los Angeles. Look for it to premiere early in 2027.
Watch both seasons on HBO Max.
