When it comes to finances, to solely focus on the numbers actually can hinder the success and outcomes we seek of not only financial freedom, but deep everyday contentment.
Co-host of the established podcast Frugal Friends, Jill Sirianni joins me to not only talk about the founding premise of their show which debuted back in 2018 and now has more than 400 episodes, and also to talk about her and her co-hosts’ Jen Smith’s new book Buy What You Love Without Going Broke that will be released in January 2025.
Overlapping themes of how to live a life of contentment as well as find peace with our money management drew me to inviting Jill on The Simple Sophisticate as listeners will discover, many of the concepts and skills discussed here on TSLL are founding themes of savvy money management – presence, self-knowledge, gratitude, simplicity and more.

CouCou Shannon, thank you for introducing this site and podcast. Your interview was excellent and I can understand why you wanted to share with all of us at TSLL, as many of the viewpoints and strategies aligned and echoed with TSLL ethos quite nicely. Critical thinking, knowing yourself, aligning your values with your purchases, living with intention and gratitude, and contentment as lifestyle from which everything else can build out from–all these are the gems that TSLL teaches and fosters so beautifully. Frugal Friends sounds like a nice supplemental voice that presents similar ideas from a different angle, so I am curious to learn more. Hope you and the pups are enjoying a lovely Saturday. xx
Thank you for tuning in to the episode Rona. So many crossovers as you so clearly pointed out. 🙂 Their fun approach to finances definitely helps take some of the often unenjoyable aspects that need not be out of the equation. Have a wonderful day as well and snugs to your feline companions!
Thank you for the introduction to Frugal Friends, Shannon. I enjoyed your interview so much, that I have listened to several episodes of their podcast & pre-ordered their book. I look forward to future financial content!
Shannon, catching up on some of your podcasts in between audio books out hiking with Scout. Loved this one, so much of what was discussed rang true with me and some lessons to definately learn as always. Made me chuckle about the segment and comments on ‘why we buy things and analyzing our state of mind at the time’. I remember way, way back in my life in 1979, I went to buy a sunlamp and thought it was too expensive and ended up buying a brand new baby blue Chevy Camero. Talk about an impluse purchase. Thanks for introducing us to Frugal Friends. Went to a talk last night hosted by Colorado Public Radio and Marketplace- Table for One, The Economics of Being Single. Very informative with a panel of single people (by choice) and some great discussions. The statistics on singles is staggering and growing and the laws and economics are not in line for sure. Peter McGraw was on the panel and he wrote a book called Solo, planning to check it out. Thanks as always for opening up my mind.
Josanne,
That panel sounds great and Peter is definitely a voice in that niche worth listening to. I feel fortunate to have been on his show a couple of years ago. I will have to find that if they recorded it and listen to the chat. Thank you for mentioning it. 🙂 Tickled you enjoyed the episode. Jill and Jen’s podcast is well done and worth exploring all of their many episodes. They have a treasure trove of topics that they have explored in-depth. Happy to have had the opportunity to bring her on the show. Thank you for tuning in! And say hello to Scout and your feline beauties! 🙂
