January arrives and we often size up our budgets and nip them in a bit, but then we realize how good it feels to dress well for the season and for our life routine. Deepening our awareness of our budget and differentiating between needs and wants is always a worthwhile practice anytime of year, but if you are noticing you have a gap here or there for your January and the rest of winter attire when it comes to the three various occasions I will share below, I have done some shopping for you and included a few items that are currently on sale as well.

In this month’s Outfits I have shopped around a bit, pulling together an outfit for chilly weather, an outfit for getting cozy perhaps popping into a bookshop for a moment or two, and an outfit to dress well, timelessly during the winter season without fuss.

Along with each outfit a book – one piece of fiction, one to inspire your everydays with daily meditations and one cookbook to add a bit of variety to your favorite French quintessential treat.

Let’s take a look at the outfits.

  1. Did you recommend the Miss Buncle books by D.E. Stevenson? Love them! Much akin to Pym Check out Mary Wesley and Anita Brookner…and the stellar Mapp &Lucia by E.F. Benson.

    1. I have! One even in my most recent book! I adored the first book especially of Miss Buncle. 🙂 Thank you for the reminder for new readers and Mapp & Lucia – a delight! Love both renditions of it for televisions. Thank you for stopping by.

    2. Thank you, ladies, this was a timely reminder. Miss Buncle’s Book is now on its way to me (never read). Mapp & Lucia, I can absolutely recommend. It is brilliant.

  2. Thanks for all those, Cara! I, too, adore the Miss Buncle books. Have you read The Four Graces (?) and Listening Valley by Stevenson? Love those also. Never heard of Pym, look forward to trying. Always looking for a superbly crafted, clever, clean story to dig into!

  3. Shannon. Those Pikolino boots. Little baby Minerva. OK. I do not wear heels— kitten heels or similar height when there is no extensive walking. But oh those BOOTS!! Insouciance, undercover gamine, absolutely beautiful craftsmanship, INCREDIBLE price for the design + quality…But I don’t wear heels, especially in boots!! I am still waffling. Are there flat soles similar available?!?! Help a woman out here!
Thank you for the intro of Barbara Pym! I do know the name of course but have never dipped in, her writing sounds so lovely, I will be reading.
Gorgeous stuff all, thank you Shannon, for informing us of the beautiful options we have. xx~Rona

    1. Pikolinas is a great brand, but also have a look at Hispanitas or Wonders footwear to continue the Spanish fab shoe theme. gx
