Un Moment de Méditation: No. 19 — How to Find Peace

That moment at the end of the day, the warmth of the spring day invites us to sit outside, perhaps grab a book, and settle in with a hot cuppa while we let ourselves be. I relish these moments. I never know when they will happen because it depends on factors that involve Mother Nature, but whenever I am home, and the temperatures are comfortable, I seize them with regularity. The day isn’t a specially marked occasion on the calendar, the time isn’t set in stone, but the ease finds me in the letting go. 

A similar thing happens when we stop searching for the answers to our life journey – which road to take, what to say yes to, how it will it work out. By constantly searching, our mind can’t be present because it’s thinking. This is not to say we shouldn’t think, but we need to be present in order to see. Or, on the other hand, maybe we already know how we want our life to play out, and so we have set expectations. This means we are waiting for a particular, very particular outcome, and that means we are not fully engaging with life as it is. Similar to what was shared in our meditation session #18, we are not holding our mind open to all of the possibilities if we have a pinpointed specific outcome that must be. 

Life’s peace is experienced when we let go. Let go of both thinking and waiting, expecting and precisely planning. Our peace is found in the present moment. That is where we relax. That is how we find peace. And that is often when new ideas, discoveries, and realizations cross our path.
