In life, when we find an activity, a hobby, or even a career or calling, in which we are engaged, we feel energized. The emotion we feel is the byproduct of what we have intentionally tried and been successful at finding – what we enjoy doing. Meditation is similar in that we don’t meditate to relax, even though in our modern world, that is how it is set up to inspire us to practice the skill. Actually, and I think, if you’ve been meditating through this series for a while, you know, meditating is about understanding our own mind better. And as a result of learning how not to become swept up in our thoughts, we gain ease, peace, and calm. Thus, we feel more relaxed because we have given ourselves the key to how to manage our mind constructively, something that, for many of us, may have felt completely out of our control until we realized the opposite.

When we understand our mind, we begin to make better decisions in all areas of our life. And, as we make better, more nourishing decisions, our life becomes more at ease; relaxation is not a moment we need because it is already interwoven into our days – each one. When we live a life of contentment, we are living a life that is at peace, a life in which we feel at ease living each day, no matter what is swirling around us.

By choosing to learn the skills meditation teaches, we give ourselves a power we’ve always had the capability of applying to our lives, and specifically our mind. With this mindfulness skill, we choose how we design our lives, how we engage with the world, and through our choices, when guided by being mindful, relaxed, calm, and at ease, is a way of being. We continue to meditate to keep that muscle strong so that not only do we experience the feeling of being relaxed while we meditate, but throughout our entire day as well.

Let’s continue the maintenance . . .

~To conclude each meditation session, I encourage you to recite a mantra of your choosing and design. In the Contentment Masterclass, I share my example, which you are welcome to use, tweak, or look to as a template to design your own. Also provided to enrollees of the course is a free trial of the guided meditation app I use.
