“I must have flowers, always, and always.” ― Claude Monet

One of the simplest ways I have found to brighten the home without spending more than $20 or $30 is a beautiful bouquet of flowers. And while a bundle of a singular flower is divine, when flowers in general are on sale as they were during the weekend following Valentine’s Day, I wanted to take advantage.

As I have been eagerly waiting for the temperatures to increase and the grass and daffodils to work their magic, I refused to wait any longer and chose the color of yellow to bring a touch of sunshine to the gray that has been predominately upon us. I dare say, my mood quickly was lifted when I dispersed the monochromatic bouquet and other small vases full of color around my home last weekend.

Petit Plaisir: No. 8 – A Monochromatic Bouquet

Steps for Success:

  1. Choose your preferred color based on what’s available
  2. Incorporate 3-5 different varietals
  3. Begin holding one flower in your non-dominate hand and add one flower at a time, alternating the type of flower and placing it as you’d prefer
  4. Once bouquet is the size you’d prefer, wrap the stems with a rubber band or floral wire
  5. Trim the stems to fit the vase (I found this small round vase at Safeway for $7)
  6. Wrap a discarded leaf (or two) from the flowers around the rubber band to disguise
  7. Place in lukewarm water immediately after trimming the stems
  8. Enjoy!
