Mixing and matching. Dressing down pieces that are dressed up, and vice versa. It’s a fun way to add options to our wardrobe without having to buy extra pieces.

How can we give our closet this flexibility? Decide on neutral colors that flatter your skin tone and hair, and buy items that can be paired with a dressed-up or dressed-down look, while also being equally suitable with their opposite partner.

As you will see below in the three outfits, a pair of wool trousers that would typically pair with a suit jacket and a proper silk blouse is instead paired with a denim jacket and a simple silk camisole. The adjustment is subtle in that it only changes one detail – the jacket, but it completely opens up different destinations to be worn with ease, even if you are wearing pointed-toe kitten heel slingbacks.

Straddling the style aesthetics comes to mind when February arrives, as we catch a hint of spring peeking through our windows. Transitioning from winter to spring becomes exciting, but we also know we need to dress for warmth and protect our toes, for example, or cover our legs. Hopefully, today’s outfits will provide options for mixing and matching in both arenas.

And yep! There are three books shared, one with each outfit – each new and coming well-reviewed. Happy shopping!
