Autumn and the boots and the knits and the quilted coats come to the forefront of the closet, and I am here for it.

Today I have two outfits for you to shop. Each outfit centers around one item I recently welcomed into my fall capsule wardrobe and am absolutely tickled with how each fits and will work with various outfit combinations.

The first item is seen above – the knit dress by Self-Portrait. While I wore many pencil skirts in my 20s and 30s, I am shifting away from them a bit, and the cut of this dress marries the pencil aspect (you can unbutton as many of the buttons or none at all, as you wish), with a slight blouse of the top in an incredibly comfortable style. While wrapping a belt around your waist is an option, the elongation of the body creates a slimming effect when left on its own.

The second item (in the outfit below), is the return availability of Lauren Ralph Lauren’s quilted navy coat. I had missed out on purchasing this coat during Nordstrom’s sale this past July and kicked myself for forgetting to stop by, but now it is back, and at Nordstrom’s it is 40% off. A wonderful deal. I imagine myself wearing it for many a leisurely winter walk in the snow here in Bend, and as it is navy, it will pair well with just about everything. The coat is also chic enough to be worn to daily activities as well for errands, casual gatherings, etc..

I just noticed that the above Jenni Kayne cashmere coat in cream is a coat I have as well (mine is in camel), and such a cozy coat – soft to the touch, fluid in its movement and wears well with jeans as well as dresses for more formal occasions that need outerwear warmth.

Piece by piece our wardrobes come together, and any of the clothing and footwear items in today’s post will be investment items to last for many years to come.

  1. Hello Shannon! The seasonal closet shift has begun! I’m pulling out the jackets, cardigans, long sleeves, heavier pants, polishing the boots etc etc. I’m taking a hard look at spring/summer clothing I either wore to death or never touched. And of course deciding what sort of “re-fresh” in the wardrobe is needed. I love the RL quilted jacket, great price too. And oh my word. I had no idea about Christian Dior’s sister. That is definitely a must-read. A bientot! XO

    1. Doesn’t that book look fascinating! I had no idea either, and yes, the coat is a great price! Tickled it came back to be available as I have been wanting a bit longer-than-hitting-at-the-waist coat but still something somewhat tailored and versatile in color. Thank you for stopping by Rona and may the refreshing of your capsule wardrobe go well. ?

  2. One quick note on the Bembien tote – I love other bags from this brand, but the woven leather ones are not as structured as they appear in the photos. I ordered one, and it was rather saggy and wouldn’t hold its shape. They look beautiful, but if one wants clean structure, perhaps keep looking.
Thanks as always for the inspiration and absolutely incredible curation! xx
