~I invite you to listen to the audio version shared above, where a guided meditation is provided that follows what is shared below in the text.
Maybe we hold in our mind that we can’t do something, or that if we do, unwanted, perhaps even the worst possible thing we can imagine will happen to us. Or maybe we have hung on to an idea about someone that prompts anger each time we think about them and what we think they think. Stories really can be anything. We’ve taken what we know and then filled in the gaps with our imagination and created a story. And too often, these stories, aren’t positive.
A story, anything we project onto the present moment, suppresses our ability to see the truth of all that actually is. Most often, if we hold stories, they are critical ones, about ourselves and others, but even stories about grandeur and superiority hinder us as well because they again, limit us from seeing others clearly and prevent us from holding our mind open.
We hang on to stories because we want to know, we want to believe that we know, even if what we think we know causes us to feel anger or causes us to suffer. To the untrained mind, the lizard mind, it is better to know than to not know, even if it is painful. It takes courage to let go of any storyline because it acknowledges a truth that so much is unknown. However, when we let go of the long-held stories, we open our life, each day to feeling free and that freedom, that liberation, brings ease. It’s as if the weight of the stories held us in place, preventing us from evolving, from growing, from discovering, because they do. Stories become part of our identity, how we invite others to connect with us, but they also burden us.
Meditation helps us to step back from our thoughts and see the stories that we hold. Then, we can choose to let them go realizing that they are just that, a story. When we do this, we set ourselves free.

~To conclude each meditation session, I encourage you to recite a mantra of your choosing and design. In the Contentment Masterclass, I share my example, which you are welcome to use, tweak, or look to as a template to design your own. Also provided to enrollees of the course is a free trial of the guided meditation app I use.
