Maybe you have a list of resolutions, dreams, life improvements you have set your intention to bring to being. Or maybe there is something that is just not working in your life, and while you don’t know how to fix it at this moment, you are determined to figure out how to do so.

However, if we live in a perpetual state of self-improvement, we pull ourselves away from the present moment. We can still evolve intentionally, we can still improve anything we may wish to change, but by using a different, and rather simple tool, we make living today as enjoyable as living in our dreamed-about tomorrow.

When we train the mind with the tool of meditation, we instill into our daily life the ability to be engaged with our full awareness and compassion. When are new default involves these two skills – awareness and compassion, the byproduct is that our perspective of how well our life is going right now changes as well.

Our external circumstances may not necessarily change, but are relationship to that which what we wish to improve and why it isn’t working does changes, and that gives us clarity.

When we unconsciously let ourselves get caught up by the nudges and influences of society that try to convince us we aren’t doing enough, we aren’t perfect enough, we aren’t [fill in the blank of the pressure you feel at this moment of what you need to improve], it becomes easy to think we have to improve something, and that this must be a constant behavior we engage in, but this is false.

Improvement and desired change are possible without perpetually ‘doing’ something to contribute to them. Our contribution is by being aware of our life right now, and engaging with it fully – the moment, the people, our feelings – and honoring what is needed while keeping our sails headed in a direction that nourishes our now and our tomorrow.

Let’s begin . . .

~To conclude each meditation session, I encourage you to recite a mantra of your choosing and design. In the Contentment Masterclass, I share my example, which you are welcome to use, tweak, or look to as a template to design your own. Also provided to enrollees of the course is a free trial of the guided meditation app I use.
