Creating a welcoming mood in any room must take into account the type of lighting that is selected, and as we have talked about many times before, overhead lighting is not an option to embrace unless you are in a workspace (kitchen, etc.). However, it can be difficult to figure out how to place lighting in the best spot when the light itself is always tethered to a cord and thus the wall in more scenarios than not. But not anymore!

Brands and designers have come to the rescue in the past couple of years, and now offer beautiful, stylish cordless lamps of all styles and types (table, floor, sconces, picture lights). And with batteries that will last for up to 10+ hours before needing to be recharged, not only is your décor void of cords to trip over and distract from the aesthetic you have carefully invested in for the room, you now have the lighting necessary for both style and function.

Currently in the middle of planning the décor of the guest bedroom, I have come across many different cordless lamps, and while deep in exploratory mode, I realized this past October that a lamp would be helpful for reading my morning news and playing the daily puzzles while I am enjoying my breakfast at the dining room table without the harsh overhead light of the chandelier. And so I made my first purchase (seen above).

Since then, after early morning breakfast use, I have moved this brass cordless lamp to the island for softer light when I am done working in the kitchen and still want to bring some gentle light to the space. I have also taken the lamp into the primary bathroom to provide light, but not too much if I want to read a book or just to create a calming mood. The beauty of the cordless lamp is the flexibility: placing it anywhere you want is now an option.

What to look for when shopping for a cordless lamp:

  • The brightness of the light – is it dimmable?
    • LED light which is what most cordless lamps use are measured in lumens. 800 lumens = 60 watts
    • Many cordless lights are dimmable, either by touch or a turn knob (mine above can be dimmed to three different levels with a gentle touch on the knob you see above)
  • How long is the battery life? (Mini Tito – 12+ hours on lowest dim, 8+ hours on highest dim)
    • What is the recharge time? (mine is two hours)
  • How many batteries are they including (mine has two, so while one is being used, I always have a second one charged and ready to replace it when the current one needs to be recharged – no down-time which I love).
  • Do you prefer cool or warm light?
    • warm – golden glow, gentle, flattering (ideal for living rooms, places of conversation, etc.)
    • cool – white, clear, more harsh (great for offices)
  • Does the lamp come with a bulb, or will you have to purchase one as an extra accessory?
    • In my experience, most come with a bulb already in place, but do double-check.
  • Do you want a remote?
    • Some lamps come with a remote, so if that is important to you, they are out there!
  • Explore how the battery will be charged.
    • This is usually very simple, but check just to be sure.
  • Be willing to invest if you want quality materials based on your needs, where it will be used most often and how sturdy it will need to be.
    • There are cheap lamps out there and often the price increases if you are given two batteries as mine has – worth the price in my opinion, but again, quality offers duration in both the aesthetics and function.

Making our homes as beautiful as they are functional is now more possible than ever. The only dilemma we now have is which one to choose! Which is where I would like to help if I can.

Below I have shopped 20 different cordless lamps and brands beginning with the company where I found my cordless lamp – Modern Lantern. In many of the selections below, you will see that various finishes and sizes are available, so if you are drawn to the style shown, but not the color, there is likely many other options available, so be sure to click through.

When I envision lamps in a sanctuary, primarily table lamps, but really, any lamp, I think about a Nora Ephron film or a Nancy Meyer’s film. In fact, just recently, while rewatching The Holiday, I noticed that in Rose’s English cottage, a small table lamp is even placed in the window sill above the stove. Look closely – it will make you smile ☺️. Lamps, shaded lamps of any material, just add an English cottage home vibe for me that I am drawn too, but that isn’t the only décor aesthetic you will see below. I have shopped modern and retro too, and one of the most popular brands Zafferano America (#4 below) has oodles upon oodles of modern styles and some that can pass for more modern and they are all available at fairly great prices.

Enjoy perusing and deciding where in your own sanctuary you could add a bit more cozy. 😌 🫖📚

Let’s go shopping!

Modern Lantern’s customer service was impeccable. These are not cheap lamps, but not luxury prices either, so a wonderful mid-price brand to explore. Shipping was swift and the product I ordered, the Mini Tito (seen above), is just as it was described – dimmable, easy to charge, sturdy and simple to assemble. They have oodles of cordless lamps, so I will just show a collage from that company.

The Ambrina style can tilt (as seen below). You can find many of these lamps at various online shops, simply search the brand name. You can also shop directly from the Italian brand, it will just take more time, but you will be able to customize the finish and get exactly what you want.

Pooky Lighting offers many different styles of cordless lamps. I have just hand selected a few below. With the customization of the shade, have fun designing your own new lamp exactly as you would like it to be.

  1. This is great post with lots of selection, thank you for presenting all the options. I have been looking forward to this ever since you mentioned these lamps in an earlier post.
While I’m primarily looking for elegant lamps for the dining table, I like the floor lamps too. I wonder if some of these lamps can be charged with a USB cable instead of a battery? Thank you.

    1. Yes, if you look at #4, you will see that some simply sit on top of their charger, the lamp. Not all have a separate battery. 🙂 Thank you for stopping by and happy to be able to help in some way! Enjoy the search!

  2. Wow, thank you for your research. I am saving this post in my favorite as I am converting my children to decor and cordless lamps too. The Ambrina style that can tilt gives me “The beauty and the beast” vibes. Perfect for my daughter.

  4. The timing for this post is so perfect because I was just getting ready to go lamp shopping after having my morning tea! It’s hard to find a decent cordless lamp in the stores so I was planning on searching online as a backup. TSLL provides better options than a google search. Thank you so much for gathering this information Shannon. You have saved many of us a potential internet search headache!

    1. Stephanie,
