Welcome to September.

The month full of opportunities for fresh starts, serious pursuits and determined efforts to revamp aspects of our lives we know can improve.

Each of us has our own journey of style, and each of us will find ourselves at a different point along this journey when a new season arrives. For example, while we hear the adage that what was out of fashion will come back into fashion, just wait, I am indeed observing that to be true as the leather skirts and dresses were one of this season’s trends, and I fondly remember purchasing a leather pencil skirt more than 15 years ago. Why did I consign that skirt? It was indeed a classic style. Oh well, lesson learned.

As always, there are new takes on classics each season, which is something I love about the dependablility of classic pieces and colors. Leopard for example is back with sophisticated avengence in dresses, blouses, shoes and accessories, as well as plaid. Many different lengths of trench coats with different prints of plaid, as well it can be found on dresses, jackets and blouses.

This season I am doing something a little different. Instead of offering splurge and save items, which was hard to do for the approach I have to building my capsule as I tend to look at each capsule piece as a necessary investment as I want it to last, I have shopped the trends that are worth investing in for you, offering both high and mid-level price points. For example, below you will see a signature pair of geometric leopard earrings for a steal, but you will also see a leopard dress that will be an investment. Depending upon how you want (or if you want) to bring the leopard trend into your wardrobe, you can invest or save.

Speaking of the trends. I am very excited to share with TSLL readers something that was just released yesterday on RetailMeNot. Last month I was invited to be one of 10 style bloggers to share the trends worth shopping this season as well as tips for shopping well and sparing your budget. You will read two (one of each) tips from me in the post, as well as two detailed lists compiled from all of the other amazing bloggers that were invited to participate. Click here (or the image below) to read RetailMeNot’s “Fashion Bloggers Share How to Revamp Your Fall Wardrobe on a Budget”.

Below you will find 11 trends of the fall season that were quite prevalent on the runway. Included with each trend are images from the runways of Paris, Milan, NYC and London, followed by a handful of items ready to be shopped (simply move your mouse on top of the item to view the brand and price, and then click through to shop directly).

At the end of the post you will find nine more shopping “gatherings” of clothes, coats, shoes and accessories. I do hope you enjoy perusing the options, and be sure to save even more money by utilizing the tools shared below.

As you begin shopping, a few ways to save some money before clicking “Purchase” are to use eBatesthe Honey bookmarklet and Coupon Cabin. And for all of the items you love, but just don’t want to pay full price, stop by Shoptagr and save each item with their bookmarklet as it will alert you directly in your inbox when it goes on sale. And don’t forget to check out TSLL Shop for Capsule Wardrobe Essentials which contains the timeless items that adhere to no other trend than “it works well all the time, period”; check out SpringFall or All-Season items.

  1. Thank you Shannon for such a comprehensive style guide. It’s going to be fun going through my wardrobe to see what’s lacking and perusing the guide to see what’s available in my budget. I am after some leopard print this season as it never dates.
    Bon weekend ?

  2. Shannon, I am really liking the new format. I have red and leopard touches in my wardrobe as an essential basic at all times.
Congratulations on the invite with Retailmenot!

The best of the holiday weekend and as we move into the fall! Big sloppy kisses to the boys❤️
