Step away to the Mediterranean coast, tucked into the nook near Toulons, and watch Tom and Lola on MHzChoice.
Starring Dounia Coesens as Lola and Pierre-Yves Bon as Tom, the pair were best friends in childhood, even attending the police academy and graduating together, but then life intervened. Now in their mid-to-late 30s, each is now immersed and highly respected in their separate police careers, but their personal lives have become a bit rocky. So! They lean on each other. While reluctant to become roommates, each needs the other’s temporary help, and Tom and Lola’s friendship is back, bringing playfulness without the sexual tension (at least so far from having watched the first few episodes). The latter is reserved for other supporting cast members toward Tom, for example, and the forensic pathologist has her eyes set on capturing his interest.
But back to Tom and Lola. Each has children: Lola, two, and Tom, one, and Lola is a single mom after two divorces, struggling to pay her rent without the alimony she’s owed. Tom has one teenage daughter and is recently separated from his wife, whom he dearly wants to reunite with if only he could change his working hours as a top member of the Drug Squad. Solution! Partner Lola and Tom up, and give him better hours.
By the time the first episode has concluded, the two best friends have made an arrangement to help each other out, and along the way, they solve one murder mystery an episode. There are 12 episodes in the first season, which debuted last week, and two new episodes drop each week until March 17th.
You may recognize Dounia Coesens from L’Art du Crime, another popular MHzChoice drama series, where she played the jilted fiancée of the series’ co-star. Pierre-Yves Bon appeared in Candice Renoir, Alice Nevers, Agathe Koltès, and Piste Noir most recently, so both leading actors are familiar faces.
Having watched the first two episodes, I immediately enjoyed the premise and the pair’s playfulness. Best described as a dramedy, if the vibe seems similar to the successful series Tandem, there is a reason: they share a production team. And with Tandem recently concluding, it was time to come up with a new duo to cheer for, and with Tom and Lola, they may have a second hit on their hands. Have a look at the trailer below, and watch the series now on MHzChoice.
