So, you’ve decided you want to improve something about yourself. Whatever it is, you are determined to welcome that change into your routine in order to bring about the improvement you seek. Seizing an opportunity for growth is a positive choice we each can make, but if we view how we wish to be in the future as ‘better’ than who we are today, we are telling ourselves a story that not only hurts our today because it lacks self-compassion, but it also will erode our tomorrow when we reach our desired outcome.

Appreciating who we are right now and all that we can do, all that we have learned, navigated through, figured out, and enjoyed so far in our life is to live our life in the present moment. If we are seeking self-improvement, we pull ourselves out of the present moment and are forever living in the future, some place that by definition is a place we will never arrive. Not because we can’t change or we can’t improve – we can, and we absolutely will see our life potentially elevate when we do, but if we won’t let ourselves rest in the present moment, we have told ourselves a story that we aren’t enough right now, and we are. We are enough just as we are right now. This moment is our life. How are you enjoying today? How are you speaking to yourself, appreciating all that is right now?

When we keep self-improvement and chosen life change to improve our quality of life in its healthy place, we both are able to savor the Now and know that at some point, we will experience the change we seek. And when that arrives, we will also appreciate that.

Let’s begin . . .

~To conclude each meditation session, I encourage you to recite a mantra of your choosing and design. In the Contentment Masterclass, I share my example, which you are welcome to use, tweak, or look to as a template to design your own. Also provided to enrollees of the course is a free trial of the guided meditation app I use.
