Over the weekend the course that provides the detailed how’s and why’s and what’s of the core foundation of living a simply luxurious life — how to cultivate contentment — opened for enrollment.
After years of sharing thousands of posts, hundreds of podcast episodes as well as three books about how to live a life of contentment, three or so years ago, the idea of putting a course together seemed to be the missing piece of TSLL. When readers, after having enjoyed a particular piece of content about a subject here on TSLL would reach out and ask how to implement or ask for supplementary content that I had created years ago, but how would they have known, I realized, I needed to create something that brought all the pieces together, and organized them in a step-by-step approach. In other words, place all of the components in one place so that it was easy for anyone sincerely seeking to cultivate a life of contentment, to live simply luxuriously, to do so without having to search through multiple books, sources, posts, and episodes. As well, make sure it was taught, not just shared. In other words, create a virtual classroom setting that both welcomed and challenged the learner to make the changes and deepen their understanding so that they would begin to experience the contentment they were seeking.
And so I put my teacher hat on and began to design the curriculum.
Over the past two or so years, after I had the core lessons (eight) in mind, I made sure that the content that had already researched and shared on the blog or podcast over the past decade or so was included in the appropriate lesson, and then I examined what I had so far for where the gaps were, assigning myself with the task of doing further research, seeking out the necessary and best experts in the fields of inquiry through their work. As well, I put myself in the shoes of the student as I too was one trying to figure out exactly how all these pieces came together and with time and application of what I learned began to see my life change in ways I had previously only hoped. So what would a student ask, or want to know or better understand so that all the lessons connected, and flowed naturally, building upon one another, so that by the end of the course, they would feel well equipped with what they needed and confident that with practice and application, with time, contentment would be experienced more and more every single day, eventually leading to experiencing it each day throughout the entire day.
I enjoyed creating this course for you. As someone who enjoyed being a teacher when I was in the classroom for 20 years, it felt as though I was back at home so to speak, doing what now feels natural, although it took years to reach such a feeling. As well, some of the content taught in the course comes from my actual courses of teaching rhetoric to AP Language students as I will teach the skills and concepts of critical thinking and how and why to apply it to your everyday life.
Lastly, an extra detail I am tickled to be able to include exclusively in TSLL Contentment Masterclass is an instrumental track of friend of the podcast The Hot Sardines. As many of you know, the lead singer of this American jazz based band is Elizabeth Bougerol who is French born, and thus brings her love of jazz as well as many songs in French to their albums.
The idea to offer TSLL a track to use on an upcoming project is something she offered, and I gladly accepted and am so grateful to have this opportunity. You will hear their “Let’s Go” track (only instrumentals, even though the song is an original with lyrics when you listen to the full track) to welcome you to each mini lesson and to conclude each one as well. Rest assured, no music will be playing while the lesson is being taught ☺️. And you can find the song in their latest album C’est La Vie, something she came to talk about on the podcast this past August in episode #363.
With many readers already having enrolled as they subscribed to the newsletters and were alerted to when the course would open this past weekend on Saturday the 22nd, I wanted to share directly here on the blog the exciting news that yep, finally, the course is now open. And in fact, students of the course have already begun to share their experience as well as peeks into where they have set up their classroom which has been an unexpected lovely surprise to see (see photos at the bottom of this post). Thank you to all that have shared your pics and reviews so far. I am very grateful ?.
