The Importance of Letting Go of Society’s Life “Rules” and Making Your Own: My Appearance on AM Northwest

Mar 26, 2019

Having the opportunity talk about core concepts of living simply luxuriously is an opportunity I don’t want to pass up, so when Portland’s AM Northwest asked me to return and be a guest on the show with host Helen Raptis, I said yes (view all of my appearances here or at the bottom of this post).

Inspired by content in TSLL’s new book Living The Simply Luxurious Life: Making Your Everydays Extraordinary and Discovering Your Best Self, in this segment I share the six areas of our lives to examine what societal rules we have unconsciously accepted and consider how they are or are not working.

Sharing a handful examples from my own life where I too have adjusted and let go of societal “rules” in order to step toward my full potential, I hope this segment helps deepen the content that was shared in the original post and in the book.

Click below on the video to view the entire six minute segment and see a few screenshots captured during our conversation – as you will see, I do not edit my enthusiasm or hand gestures. 😉

  1. Loved this appearance Shannon and also your Shirtini dress.
Your books, blog, podcasts have been a revelation to me in embracing what I truly want my life to be regardless of others.
    Thank you

  2. You so embody this idea of living your own truth, Shannon. What a wonderful appearance! I imagine it can be stressful with the time element on television but you handled it all so naturally. Thank you for sharing this clip!

    1. Margi, You are very kind. Thank you for viewing the segment. I have to give so much credit to Helen and the producers as they make it easy and are always more than prepared for all of the talking points. I am deeply appreciative to them.

  3. Thank you for posting this clip. I have been following your podcast for a few years now and always look forward to your wonderful and intelligent discussions – I so appreciate your work! I have read your first book and am now reading book 2 and loving it! Just want you to know how much your message of creating a beautiful life on your own terms has changed my life since I, by chance tuned into your podcast one New Year’s Eve, looking for inspiration and a positive message. The first episode I ever listened to was entitled “being single is a luxury” or something like that and by the end of that podcast I really had a whole shift in my perception about my life and what is possible -your podcast , blog and books provide a much needed reminder that lovely flowers and music, good food, films, hot tea, nature and so many other simple things are true luxuries and always available to us. Thank you again for your wonderful podcast and writings that inspire, and uplift!

    1. Pepper, Thank you very much for your comment and kind words. I am so happy your perception is shifting to a more positive outlook as our minds play a powerful role in the quality of life. Thank you for your time and have a wonderful weekend ☺️❤️
