Summer is just about here, and not that I am rushing it, but we can save now and have a new summer item or two arrive just in time for June 21st and beyond!
From Net-a-Porter and The Outnet and even Boden, the sales are plentiful. I have pulled together six outfits of summer style based on preference – dresses, shirts, jeans, pants, linen, cotton and of course paired each of the ensembles with a book! A few of them soon to be released, others just released and two others are only available now in the UK with a long wait time until they will be released in the States, so shopping through Blackwells’ is a great idea.
Now to peruse and explore and maybe pick up an item or two to fill a gap in your summer wardrobe!

So easy and beautiful, every pice and look here! By coincidence I just acquired the JCrew open weave cardigan. It’s comfortable and nice over simple neutrals. I’m still always a bit stumped for layers over dresses in the summer! The upcoming graduation day now looks quite roasting hot, so I’m in a major rethink for this day spent outside in two lengthy ceremonies. T-shirt and skirt here we come, with a much bigger clear bag than the very cute mini I dreamed might work. Must have a book! All will be wonderful and lovely. By contrast, her last graduation was the biggest deluge of rain we’d seen in some years, and we stood outside in our sandals with umbrellas, enjoying it all as though basking in sunshine. : ) Thank you for the summer inspiration. -E
Congratulations Liz on your daughter’s upcoming graduation! And may you stay cool. Sounds like you have a great plan. A linen scarf always comes in handy for layers in summer to protect from the sun but also keep cool. And what a contrast of experiences – immense rain and now intense heat. You dance with it all spectacularly and no doubt this go-round will be filled with of great memories ☺️ Thank you for your comment!
Layering is not an option beginning late May around here, so tanks, tops, skirts and dresses made of linen/cotton blends stand up quite well to the wilting and fierce heat. And yes! As Lucy has suggested, even if you are not a hat person, a pretty chapeau is a must. A good drapey silk scarf, fashioned to fall loosely in the front, can take the place of a heavy necklace and provide a nice airy pop of color. I’m sure it will be fabulous, no matter the weather. Congratulations to all!
Dear Liz, this season my best friend in an open football field was an airy weave straw hat. Borrowed from a friend, it saved the day. I am very fair and even at my age I have freckles. I need protection. Not much of a hat person really, but I did feel a bit like Audrey Hepburn while wearing it. I hope your event is a joyous one, celebrating such an achievement. Congrats to you both!
Ah, you made me think of the great film, “Funny Face”, such a lovely romp and oh my, the fashion! I am quite sure you looked cool, charming and a touch mysterieuse in your chapeau. xx
Well, I HAD to order, didn’t I? I mean, just the title alone, “Receipts from the Bookshop”, and why have I not known about this fabulous woman before now?? And of course, it’s coming from Blackwell’s, whyever wait? Many thanks Shannon, this looks just wonderful! xx(And love to the sweet popette, Nelle, bien sur💕).
It looks like a fantastic read. Ordered mine as well! 🙂 Happy reading! 🙂
