The power of bringing our personality to our homes is a careful balance. We don’t want to overwhelm the room with too much “us”, but we also want to personalize our space. British interior designer Ben Pentreath shares a slight change on the picture wall idea. Why not move the items closer? And why not, as you will see with many of the images below, fill the frames with pieces of a map? A map of a city you love?

The last picture in this post captures Pentreath’s very own living room in London that was featured in House & Garden UK earlier this year. Observe the antique map of the Thames running through London and how the proximity of each frame intensifies the collage. Look for Pentreath’s new book English Houses to be released in October, and learn more about this new approach to wall decor in The Wall Street Journal’s article here.
