~The Rain Watcher: A novel by Tatiana de Rosnay

Being released at the end of October, and with much anticipation as it has been four years since the author of Sarah’s Key has shared a new piece of fiction, The Rain Watcher is set in Paris and tells the tale of a family who has come together after much time apart. With tensions high and the added stress of a flood that happens about the city, the plot begins to thicken on what was supposed to be a celebration of the patriarch’s 70th birthday. 


~Milk Street: Tuesday Nights: More than 200 Simple Weeknight Suppers that Deliver Bold Flavor Fast by Christopher Kimball

The second cookbook from Christopher Kimball’s Milk Street Studios is about, well, just as it is titled – simple weeknight dinners. Organized in chapters regarding how much time you have to spend as well as meal-type themes, discover new, flavorful and simple ways to amplify the weekday dinner.


~~Can You Ever Forgive Me?

Melissa McCarthy stars in the film adapted from Lee Israel’s memoir which was released a few years ago. Lee Israel is best known for being a celebrity biographer in the 60s and 70s, writing about Katharine Hepburn and Estee Lauder. But as the publishing market changed, what she knew how to write well was no longer in demand. And so, she turned to forgeries. Have a look at the trailer below and look for it to open today in a theater near you. I am looking forward to seeing Melissa on screen, particularly in this role.

Specializing in ceramics for both the kitchen and the garden, if you are traveling in the region, be sure to visit and shop. This simple oil jug is not only functional, but simple in its effortless beauty, and certainly not like anything else on the market.

A few weeks ago, I traveled to Portland and stopped into Powell’s Books. I always love perusing the cookbook section, and I came across this cookbook which was published a few years ago. Perhaps, yes, I was still clamoring for anything having to do with Provence, but the pictures, and the simple recipes certainly caught my eye as my tastebuds were piqued.

~Sophie the Parisian: Style Tips from a True Parisian Woman by Nathalie Peigney 

Inspired by the eponymously named blog, Sophie the Parisian was just released this past week, and it is full of everyday style tips and tricks for the woman who works and plays, but all the while wants to include a touch of that Parisian je ne sais quoi.


~Ganni Dufort Silk Wrap Dress

I cannot remember how I came upon this dress, but when I did I stopped and saved it immediately. The midi-length caught my attention, and I can imagine this beautiful dress being a classic to wear in late spring and summer year after year.

~Heidi Wynne Fisherman Knit Crewneck Sweater

It’s fall and winter is around the corner. What better classic capsule wardrobe item to have than a fisherman knit sweater? Available for less than $200 and available in other colors as well as in a cardigan style, be sure to take a look.


~Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat

Based on the bestselling cookbook by Samin Nosrat Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat: Mastering the Elements of Good Cooking which came out in the spring of 2017, the author has now stepped in front of the camera to take viewers on a culinary adventure, documentary-style to explore each of the four elements around the globe. Now available on Netflix, critics are quite excited about the series, and viewers are already raving as well. I am looking forward to savoring one episode at a time starting this weekend. ~recipe for a Fresh Fig Tart~

A luxurious bubble bath is calling this weekend as I have been reminding myself to rest up. Rest up for what, you may be wondering? Well, I was elated to come home Thursday after work and see a pile of boxes on my porch – so much so, I couldn’t open the door to get out of my garage (that is an awesome problem! I was so excited and still pinching myself!).

The first shipment of preordered copies of TSLL’s 2nd book had arrived, and my spare bedroom is now slowly filling up with supplies for the big weekend when my family will be arriving and we will be packing up readers’ books and sending them to your homes. Needless to say, I am trying to contain my excitement, but I know it won’t last for long. November 13th! 🙂

~I am just beginning to be introduced to cookbook writer Georganne Brennan’s work, but when I saw her home in France featured in a past issue of Victoria, I quickly took a look her cookbooks and put them on my wishlist.

~I don’t know about you, but I cannot wait for my copy of the Barefoot Contessa’s new cookbook to arrive on Tuesday (the 23rd). Recently, she sat down with Katie Couric in her home in Easthampton, as well as cooked in her barn a recipe very similar to the Fig Tart above. Needless to say, I think I know what my next new dessert recipe give-it-a-try will be.

  3. I am beyond excited to receive your new book, Shannon! I ordered a couple of weeks ago. Congratulations on the publication of your latest book. I so admire how you truly craft and use your time to create a meaningful life. Wishing you some time to relax this weekend. I suspect that may involve some good food, some marketing, a walk, some reading, and that bubble bath! What does your current selection look like? Any preferences? We are now in that time of year when I find taking a bath is such a luxurious addition! Best wishes!
