~My Paris Dream: An Education in Style, Slang and Seduction in the Great City on the Seine by Kate Betts

With a career in fashion writing and editing that most people dream about, Kate Betts takes her readers on a journey through her career as a young writer who moved to Paris and would take any job in order to reside in the city she was beyond fond of: Paris. From that point on, she continued to shine as a writer for Paris’ bureau of Women’s Wear Daily and eventually became the youngest Editor-in-Chief at Harper’s Bazaar. My copy just arrived as it was just released this week, so rest assured I will be finding a cozy coffee shop and losing track of time while I slip away to Paris . . . if only in my dreams.

~5 to 7

In other words, “a 5 to 7 relationship is a relationship outside of marriage”. Olivia Thirlby and Anton Yelchin heed nature’s calling and explore an unconventional, yet hardly covert relationship. Glenn Close, who plays Yelchin’s mother, states in the trailer ,”There are two forces on earth you never want to be fighting: One is Mother Nature, the other is love.” Recommended by a TSLL reader, I cannot wait to view this film. Currently in theaters, look for it to be available on Netflix and Amazon in the following months.

~I’ll See You In My Dreams

In her first starring role at the age of 72, Blythe Danner looks to have secured a role worth the wait. In I’ll See You in My Dreams, Danner plays a widow of 20 years who is perfectly content in her life and is not in the least bit interested in remarrying, until life has other plans. Sam Elliott arrives, and well, need I say more? With Rhea Perlman as her entertaining sidekick, premiering this Friday in select theaters, look for it, treat yourself to it and thoroughly enjoy it. It looks delightful. Have a look at the trailer below.  (Take a listen to her recent interview on NPR where she speaks of how her life in many ways parallels her character Carol.)

~Garance Dore Notepads

Recently in an Instagram post I shared my recent notepad find. Designed with blogger and fashion photographer Garance Dore’s illustrations, each notepad (“On the Go” and “Front Row”) contain 70 sheets of paper, and are a lovely simple addition to an office space, nightstand or kitchen “to do” list for everyday.

~Boden Jersey Maxi Skirt

Lovely warm weather is now promising to be rather regular and that means comfort, yet cool clothing is necessary. Boden’s new maxi skirts with a subtle stretch look to be just the needed addition to a spring/summer capsule wardrobe. Available in a handful of prints and colors, pair with a simple solid sleeveless top and let the skirt do the talking.

A weekend full of exploration, dreaming and much needed relaxing awaits. And while I know the unofficial start to summer is next weekend, the weeks leading up to it are some of my favorites. The weather is perfectly temperate, sunshine is mixed with intermittent rainfall that evokes the most irresistible, impossible-to-replicate scent and everything truly seems to be possible. After all, if the flowers can bloom and the trees can come back to life after such a frigid winter, well then, maybe anything really is possible.

I do hope you have a lovely weekend wherever it takes you. For your leisurely reading pleasure, I’ve found a few articles you might enjoy. Until Monday, bon week-end!

  1. Really enjoying the audiobook version of ”My Paris Dream” by Kate Betts but her French pronounciation is absolutely dire. Woeful. The narrative is a rollicking good read though.
