Getting Back to Happy: Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Reality, and Turn Your Trials into Triumphs by Marc and Angel Chernoff

I cannot recommend highly enough Marc and Angel’s new and first book – Getting Back to Happy. If you have been enjoying their life and motivational blog Marc and Angel Hack Life, then you will want to pick up their book which was just released this past Tuesday. Appearing on the Today Show earlier this week, I am so happy for them as they bring an authentic and inspiring voice to the journey of life that often brings us struggles, but only if we wish to grow. That is the simple guiding wisdom which they dive into to shift our minds and inspire readers to have the courage to navigate through.

The Little Black Book by Otegha Uwagba

Sharing tips about how to successfully build a self-made career, she also includes career advice from author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Refinery29 co-founder Piera Gelardi, The Gentlewoman‘s Editor in Chief Penny Martin as well as many more. No matter what your career, this book will offer inspiration and guide to soar.

Pouch Hammocks

I love my hammock, and it wasn’t until I moved to Bend that I was able to have one in my back yard. There is something soothing, free and peaceful about swaying gently in a hammock out amongst Mother Nature’s creatures and so long as you care for your hammock, a Pouch hammock might just be the hammock to welcome to your outdoor leisure space. With a variety of designs and even colors, while an investment, they will beckon you to kick up your feet and relax.

Mary Shelley

One of my favorite novels is Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein(1818). The themes of the misunderstood outsider and deep appeal to one’s emotions of compassion and understanding immediately struck a cord when I read it for the first time during my undergrad studies. Now a new film has been released depicting the English writer, played by Elle Fanning in a biopic directed by a pioneering female Saudi Arabian director (read The New York Times interview with the director). Critics aren’t too wildly enthusiastic, but as a literature teacher, I am eager to view it. In theaters beginning this weekend, have a look at the trailer below.

Net-a-Porter semi-annual sale

The semi-annual sales have begun and if you have had a few items saved on Shoptagr, now is a great time to pounce and reap the benefits of significant savings. Net-a-Porter is one of the many online shopping sites with significant sales. And Stella McCartney Poppy Snoozing silk-satin pajama set(40% off) immediately caught my eye (perhaps because I am craving much slumber this weekend). This week they begin at 30%, and as the weeks progress, the discounts will deepen. I have selected a few items below, but be sure to check out the entire sale site as well.

Moda Operandi 4-day sale

Another site worth checking out for sales on designer items is Moda Operandi. For four days only beginning today, take 60% off sale items through May 28th with promo code SPLASH. Below are a few items that captured my attention.

~recipe for Chocolate Bourbon Mousse Cake with Ganache~

This week was sprinkled with rain throughout the workdays, and as someone who luxuriates in this weather, it made the week more relaxing, more restorative, more of what I needed. The three-day weekend that has arrived here in the states will be savored greatly in my household. Norman and I are heading to the vet one more time today to make sure his leg on the mend. Simply getting answers will assuage my mind as the not-knowing for certain is often more detrimental to our unconscious. As well, I look forward to diving head first into the above book I mentioned above by Marc & Angel Chernoff. Having made it through the first few chapters, and now having more time on my hands for a few days means getting lost in its pages. The refreshing and helpful guidance I have read so far could not have come at a better time.

Whether you are getting out of town this weekend or simply putting your feet up and enjoying your home and your community, I hope you have a wonderful time. It’s hard to believe this is the last weekend in May, but indeed it is. And I look forward to savoring it. Thank you for choosing to stop by the blog and be sure to take a look at an article or two as well as the Francophile video below as you slip into the weekend. Until Monday, bonne journée.
