Adding a simple highlight to brighten the eyes is a gentle use of subtle shine. And it was the Duchess of Sussex (when interviewed by Beauty Banter – Meghan Markle) that shared her go-to highlighter – YSL’s Touche Éclat – which is highly recommended by shoppers. There are a variety of shades, and having something that will brighten one’s face especially after a long day is not a bad beauty hack to have on hand.
—Dear Mrs. Bird: A Novel by AJ Price
Set in London 1940, AJ Price’s debut novel involves Emmeline Lake who takes a job as a typist for the revered and frank advice columnist Henrietta Bird. While not exactly the job Emmeline was hoping for, she takes the job on and defies instructions to toss “unpleasant” letters in the bin. Reaching out to individuals who are seeking help in wartime as blitzkrieg is underway, Emmeline steps into the role she had hoped to find – Lady War Correspondent – albeit in a different fashion than expected. A story of inspiring compassion and devoted friendship, having just been released this month, this book may just be the read to lift your spirits regarding humankind.
—Killing It: An Education by Camas Davis
A memoir of a fellow Oregonian who journeys to rural southwest France after love and work plans have fallen through, and in so doing, discovers new life truths about the journey of living simply and living well. Learning how to be a butcher with a Gascon pig farming and butcher family, the book is a journey into herself and outside of the confines of the world Camas Davis had once thought she knew.
—All I Wish (aka A Little Something For Your Birthday)
One of the best ways to pass a few hours on a long flight home is to stumble across a delightful film that you have never heard about. Such was the case when I saw Sharon Stone and Tony Goldwyn starring in the film A Little Something For Your Birthday. Online I discovered the title is All I Wish which was released this past spring, but on the plane, it was the former. While it won’t be winning any Oscars, the concept is a different approach to romantic comedies as Sharon Stone’s character begins the film in her late forties and viewers follow her life’s journey through at least five or six birthdays that follow, which allows a full story to mature and be more realistic regarding the life successes and struggles she encounters. But it wasn’t originally written for Sharon to play the lead role. Rather she was asked to play the mother of the lead role who would be 25. Sharon had another idea, and the script changed. I like it. Have a look at the trailer belo
Out last week, the sequel to the box office smash Mamma Mia returns. And this time with even more famous faces – Cher anyone? Have a look at the trailer below, if you haven’t already seen it ;).
—L’Art du Crime series
Again, on the plane, being an international flight, many different films from a variety of countries are available, and it was the case that I came across a crime series set in France – L’Art du Crime. While I was only able to view the first episode of the first season (there are two seasons so far), I was intrigued. The first episode was set in the Loire valley which was where I had just visited, so I was noticing details and names of towns and chateaus that rang more than a bell. I have yet to find viewing options that contain English subtitles here in the states, so if anyone knows where to find them, I would love to know.
Something about these earrings whispered summer to me when I saw them. I can imagine an elegant maxi dress with hair tucked up in a chignon to beat the heat, and these earrings being the simple signature statement accessory that completes the outfit.
If you are looking for a work tote or a new handbag as you look ahead to fall, be sure to take a look at all that Rebecca Minkoff has discounted. I have two of her M.A.B. totes (large), and the black is currently on sale, (I believe it is in medium size – have a look below). Having had them for years, they work well and always stay in style. Simply use promo code SUMMER25 to save an additional 25% off sale items.
Isn’t this dress the epitome of summer? Nothing more needs to be said.
~recipe for Lemon Cream Tarts~
The last weekend of July and the sun is out in full force! I slipped into the movie theater yesterday afternoon to not only cool down, but take in a film I have heard only rave reviews about, and I wasn’t disappointed (in fact, more than few tears were shed, as well as smiles). This weekend’s plans have me checking out a few garage sales, taping an episode of The Simply Luxurious Kitchen (the first episode airs September 8th!), and enjoying my weekly yoga class. Oh, and you can believe I will be watching the final day of the Tour de France as they race around Paris – go Peter Sagan!
What will you be up to this weekend? Whatever it may be, my it be delicious, relaxing and inspired in perhaps the most unexpected ways. Below are a few articles and one video that I think you might enjoy. Until Monday, bonne journée!
