Outfit of the Week: The Blazer

Aug 26, 2015

A confession: When it comes to the essentials, I have always loved blazers, but have struggled to find a cut that not only looked appropriate on my body (broad shoulders), but also would last from season to season. Well, my searching has FINALLY ceased. After trying on a couple of different brands, Theory’s Blazers fit as though they are tailored to my body. A quality product that is lined and tucks into my waist at precisely where my waist actually is, the sleeves as well are LONG enough! Okay, I was sold. Other colors are available besides navy above (I picked up a charcoal, but black and white are available as well). Shop options here and here.

The gift of having a blazer on hand is that you can wear it up for work or down for play as I styled for today’s outfit. Choose the color or colors that would work best with your capsule wardrobe, have a scarf handy and you’re ready for fall.

  1. Love blazers with… Everything! They just finish an outfit perfectly. I must have a dozen that I have collected an hung on to over the years.

  2. Like you Shannon I struggle to find a good fit though I am the opposite build of you — short and curvy. Thanks to your advice when you styled a spring wardrobe for me I’m now a lot more confident about my choices and I get lovely comments.

I recommend Eileen Fisher for other short curvy TSLL readers — the petite sizes really are proportioned smaller. Be sure to read both the size guide and the recommendations on sizing for the particular garment to get a good fit. I haven’t had to have any EF garments altered even though I’m ordering from overseas.

  3. I second that, Melody! I bought a beautiful, stylish blazer that looks like a million dollars and fits like a glove from H&M. I had to go up two sizes…but it was worth it!

  4. Such a beautiful and stylish roundup (as always!), I’m dying to know what you’re summer capsule wardrobe would be- I always feel at a total loss during the summer season. Colder months seem to give so many options (with boots, layering, scarves and jackets), but when it’s baking here I can’t seem to fathom much more than shorts and a tank-top.

Anywho, loved the post as always!

    xoxo

    1. Shannon, you can view a list of my capsule wardrobe in one of my posts found under the Styling Services page. If you have further questions, just let me know. I also go over it more in depth in my book’s Style chapter.
