As is well-known by Nancy Meyers fans and more specifically the fans of film The Holiday, Iris (Kate Winslet)’s Rosehill Cottage only never actually existed. The interiors at least were only ever enjoyed on a sound stage and “the exteriors were built from scratch in a field and the interiors are sets”, but I will admit readily, I will watch the film again and again solely for decor inspiration and to capture that cozy filling that only a small, thoughtfully decorated cottage (and maybe only in England, but I hope to curate some of these similar touches across the pond, :)) can create.

Recently, House & Garden UK shared the cottage that inspired Meyers’ iconic abode, and detailed the decor elements coveted by fans such as myself (yep, even the exact same small, soaking tub is still available – shop The Albion Bath Company) and I have a feeling my TSLL readers as well. I am saving this post, but before you click (or maybe after), enjoy a tour of The Holiday‘s Rosehill cottage in Surrey below without having to hit the pause button to take in all the lovely, cosy details.

  1. Ooh – I’m so glad you reminded me of this film, Shannon. It’s a must-see for this time of year, but honestly, I don’t think I’ve seen it for a number of years, now. In my family, it’s tradition to watch Holiday Inn on Thanksgiving, which leads into the whole holiday season. (It does have some scenes that are no longer politically correct, but we take it for what it is, historically.)

Happiest Thanksgiving to you, and on we go to happy holiday movies!!

And thank you for more English country inspiration!

  2. thank you for the treat of the cutest cottage evah! funny how people rarely drool over the LA home but this sweet little stone cottage dusted by snow is a favorite of so many. I will now go dream of chintz and lavender pillows…..

    1. That is very true! While the LA house is lovely and quite tasteful, the cottage is just cozy and more welcoming. The gift that perhaps only a cottage can curate in our mind’s eye? 🙂

  3. I really enjoyed this article. I got the first book on Audible and listened to it twice. Recently I got the second and can’t wait to listen to it.
