Whether there is snow on the ground or unseasonably warm temperatures, winter is officially here in the northern hemisphere. And while I may not be able to have a fire in the fireplace on Christmas morning, this holiday season is full of festivities. It is my wish for all of TSLL readers that this time of year is going well, your spirits are up and you are looking hopefully at the arrival of 2015.

One of my most enjoyed activities during the days leading up to Christmas is spending a few hours stopping into a handful of local businesses, picking up last minute items for the menu, seeing a gift that while not planned for would be just perfect for that someone special and chatting with acquaintances as they too wrap up their holiday preparation. The energy is always jovial and the holiday tunes fill each store helping to motivate just one more purchase. No other time of year does the confluence of all of these favorite small, yet significant events occur, and truly, I revel in it.

And so, it was Monday that I found myself popping in and out of stores in Walla Walla: the cheese shop, the wine store, the bakery and don’t forget the dry-cleaners. And with the sunshine out, I must say, I wasn’t missing the snow as badly as I had expected.

With each year that I am opportune to enjoy the holidays, it is much more the experiences that I cherish, rather than the gifts. The gathering of friends, the losing track of time, the singing along to all of the favorite, cheesy, yet the-holiday-wouldn’t-be-complete-without music. And to give a gift that is most beloved that is far better than receiving, no?

However you most enjoy the holidays, I do want to wish you a very merry time. May this time of year exceed your expectations and fill you with encouragement that life is one amazing gift in and of itself.

Note: TSLL will be taking its annual week off beginning tomorrow. However, new posts will still go live each weekday (Dec. 25-Dec. 31st). Stop by to view the top 2014 posts of each daily category (Style Inspiration, Motivation & Inspiration, Decor, Why Not . . . ?, and Petit Plaisirs), and a brand new post to kick off 2015 will be posted Thursday January 1st. Be sure to follow on Instagram as I will be taking a few adventures during my winter holiday, and if you’re looking for reading material to start off the new year auspiciously, check out TSLL book that was just released.

Happy holidays, and I’ll see you in 2015.
