After a short work week, the weekend has begun, and such a thing can never begin too quickly. Whether you’re bundled up this weekend in the midwest and east coast or enjoying the sun in the southern hemisphere, I hope this first weekend of 2014 sets the proper tone for a year that will exceed your expectations. And if you’re looking for some inspiration to kick off the new year, these two posts (here and here) were the posts that readers quickly made their favorites as 2013 came to a close and 2014 began.

Regardless of what your plans are for Friday and Saturday night, I have a feeling many of you, like me, will be enjoying the return of Downton Abbey – (Season 4 premiere) – Sunday evening  (9pm on PBS). And if you don’t have cable at your home, did you know you can watch the episodes via your Amazon Prime account? I was thrilled to hear this news as Downton Abbey will now be exclusively streaming only with Amazon.

Along with my show of the weekend to watch, here are a few other picks I wanted to share with you to enjoy reading or listening to this weekend.

~”For 2014, Tweet Less, Read More” . . . written by one of my favorite columnists in The New York Times

~”Rachel Zoe’s 10 Style Resolutions for the New Year” . . . not all resolutions have to be serious

~”The Fear of Being Alone” . . . an empowering post to read whether your are in a relationship or single

~And a song that has had me tapping my feet for the past few days (and the video is a treat as well) that I think you might enjoy . . .

  1. I forget we are a season ahead of you here in England. Downton Season 4 has finished for us. There was a Christmas special in December. Has that made it to you?

  2. This season was great. There are not a whole lot of edge of your seat moments as in previous seasons, but its still filled with the same Downton goodness we have all come to love! Enjoy and Happy New Year. I’m so excited to follow along your travels this year.

  3. Thanks for the reminder about Downton, I might have missed it. I’ll forward to my girlfriends as a reminder. We all enjoy it.

  4. The video was awesome. It made me “happy” as I was listening to it. 🙂
Also, I enjoyed you sharing The Fear of Being Alone. It is especially relevant this time of year. Many people feel lonely during the holidays and New Year
