Functional Family Sophistication in Oxfordshire

Jun 04, 2020

Complete with an Aga to custom cabinetry and a large window-side soaking tub, this refurbished farmhouse turned family home in Oxfordshire offers sophistication and simplicity.

The plush striped cushions in the kitchen, such a simple detail, drew me into the space immediately. Matching with the nearby window seat, I could easily linger in this space for hours whether I was cooking or not.

British interior designer Samantha Todhunter style is elevated, signature, yet subtle in its thoughtful attention to timeless detail. Mixing modern touches with classic English design details, the balance has been struck beautifully, and the simple farmhouse has been transformed into a welcoming family home.

  • Create the illusion of higher ceilings with light paint and clear shades for pendants that create drama without the obstruction.
  • Keep it simple with tiles making the space easier to clean, as well as cool and timeless.
  • Bring attention to leaded glass windows by drawing the eye to the space with either a custom seating area or a soaking tub that beckons a long, leisurely bubble bath.

I have pulled a handful of my favorite rooms, but be sure to tour the entire space here.

  1. Gosh this is a lovely and serene home. I love the dining bench with the ticking cushion and the squared window panes.

  2. What an incredible space! Samantha Todhunter really nailed it on the head, and it makes me want to explore more of her interior design work. The space is so elegant and sophisticated but somehow still so cozy and homey. It truly feels like a warm family home without feeling too clean cut or sterile.
