Since Lauren Elkin’s book Flâneuse: Women Walk the City in Paris, New York, Tokyo, Venice, and London was released in February, I have added the French term for aimlessly strolling the streets of society (flânerie; flâneur (male), flâneuse (female)) to my memory. Such a beautiful way to take in a new destination or a destination you wish to savor. And during the warm summer months in France, whether in Paris (be sure to read Susan Cahill’s new book (above) to aid you in your wandering of the city) or one of the many country towns or regional cities throughout France, this linen dress looks to be a very comfortable, yet style choice.

Yes to the dress, although loose linen cropped pants also work. The important thing in your grouping is the footwear! Flâner requires hoofing it, albeit at a leisurely pace. Your choice of sandals is right on (or Tropéziennes from Rodini or K-Jacques if you want French brands).
I just read about Flâneuse on another site this morning and immediately added it to my book list! Seeing it here is definitely a sign that this is a book I need to read. 🙂
Happy reading! 🙂
I thought about this site after I wandered into a store in Alexandria owned by a French woman who made it her personal crusade to educate everyone who walked in about high quality fabrics and tailoring and the horrors of fast fashion. It was an incredibly amusing two hours! And it inspired me to get back to this site and focus on quality, not quantity.
