A spring trend brought to the forefront by the Duchess of Sussex just prior to her in May wedding caught my eye. Wearing an Altuzarra Audry button-detail midi dress to a Commonwealth reception in London (and joined by Prince Harry), it was the accessorizing of the buttons that grabbed my attention.
Both Balmain and Altuzarra have a multitude of buttons adorning their styles, but even monochromatic buttons or subtle, small buttons as seen in some of the sweaters below add a traditional touch without being too dated. The key is to wear a cut that is either timeless or contemporary as the balance will ensure being en vogue.
From shorts and jeans offering the sailor-inspired styles to a dress or skirt, as well as sweaters, a few buttons carefully placed are the only accessory needed to an otherwise simple ensemble.

I often sew on upscale replacement buttons on inexpensive cardigans and overcoats. Make acrylic look like cashmere and a dress coat look “designer”. Buttons aren’t cheap, but they tell a story as well as the right shoes.
Great idea! Thank you for sharing. 🙂
