Aside from the adorable Cavalier King Charles pups captured in a couple of the images for this Newport house, I sincerely am smitten by the decor inspiration brought forth by designer Peter Dunham.
Located in Southern California, the owners of the house have owned this residence over two decades, but it was with Dunham’s deft eye for honoring their love for gardening and repose that brought their vision of luxury and comfort to life.
Let’s take a look at the Decor Inspiration takeaways:
- Create a visual frame regarding how the room is seen from other rooms. The above dining room beckons anyone who sees it from the garden to come and dine for hours. The rug frames the off-white upholstered chairs and the focus immediately goes to what is being served.
- Don’t forget the ceiling. Whether you panel it and add a satin finish (as seen in the family room below) or continue the wallpaper onto the ceiling as in the office (below), keeping in mind how powerful what resides above us can do so the size and feel of the room is something to always remember.
- Mix soft and hard textures. In the library, the ivory upholstered sofa pairs well with the leather armchair and wood paneling, providing some softness along with the chandelier.
- Make room for a potting shed, either indoor or out, if possible. Theirs is a dream, but what a dream to aspire to. 🙂
I have pulled a handful of the images that caught my eye, but you can tour the entire home here in Veranda magazine.
