~Elements of Style: Designing a Home & a Life

Decor blogger, Erin Gates, recently released her first book, Elements of Style and I am eager to get my hands on it. With full-color and illustrations throughout, Gates shares detailed advice and inspiration on how to decorate your home in your own unique signature style. Readers will be taken room-by-room on a tour of DIY projects and ideas, as well as learn from Erin’s oops stories and many successes.

~Playing Big: Find Your Voice, Your Mission, Your Message

A few weeks ago I shared an article to read, written by author Tara Mohr which spoke to the need for women to cultivate a toolbox on how to accept criticism and use it to their benefit rather than allowing it to push them back into a corner. In her new book, Playing Big, Mohr offers women the tools to build their own toolbox on how to curate the changes they wish to see not only in themselves but in the world. Needless to say, she made more than a few valid points in her op-ed, so I am curious to have a look at what she suggests.

 ~Out & About

~David Sedaris

Humorist writer, David Sedaris is currently on tour, offering audiences an opportunity to experience first-hand his witty observations of the human condition. Labeled the “funniest writer in America” by O Magazine, a contributor to NPR and brother to the equally talented Amy Sedaris (who plays a supporting role in Alpha House mentioned below), I was ecstatic to see that he would be making a stop in my neighborhood – Walla Walla – on November 19th.  Author of Me Talk Pretty One Day and many other New York Times best-sellers, Sedaris’ current book Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls was just released this past June.

~Isabel Marant bronze-tone enameled earrings

The OutNet just released a handful of beautiful jewelry from Isabel Marant, and these clip-on earrings in particular caught my eye. For day or evening, a necessary staple to have on hand.

~Alpha House Season 2

Last fall I recommended one of Amazon Prime’s original comedies, Alpha House. And as someone who enjoys the news and is fascinated by politics, the humorous touch to all that takes place in Washington D.C. was a breath of fresh air. Starring John Goodman,  Clark Johnson, Matt Malloy and Mark Consuelos, season two kicks off today on Amazon Prime.

~House of DVF

As a few of my readers reminded last week, Diane von Furstenberg is coming to our television sets. Beginning on November 2nd at 10pm, House of DVF on E! will premiere. The docu-reality series stars Diane von Furstenberg and is set in her flagship store in NYC in the meatpacking district. Each week a gaggle of girls vies for the opportunity to become part of the DVF team, and Furstenberg takes them through the paces. While I’m not a fan of reality show drama, I am simply eager to see into the world of the queen of wrap dresses. Check out a preview below.

One of the first episodes of SATC is still one of my favorites (see above). Partly because it involves fashion and a dose of sports, but mainly because well, wouldn’t it be fun to dress so extraordinary for such a casual event? So long as your girlfriends were with you, everything would certainly be splendid. As the World Series continues here in the states and the fall fashion season meanders into chillier temperatures, it really is a sign that fall is upon us.

And as such, a true fall weekend seems to be upon us and thankfully more than a few bronzed leaves are still holding on. A walk with the colors most certainly is in store and yet another leisurely weekend as well. I’ve been enjoying this book recently and am looking forward to finishing it this weekend. As far as what else is on my plate, it really is wide-open.

Before I go, be sure to download the new TSLL app for easy reading of all of the blog posts on your tablet and mobile devices, and as I’m planning a short book tour this spring and summer, I am all ears for any independent bookstores you think I should visit. A great list of recommendations has already begun here, so please do share.

~Enjoying Friday evening in or even if you’re going out, be sure to DVR PBS’ Great Performance at 8pm when Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett perform on stage together singing classic jazz ballads and duets. Taped at Lincoln Center in New York City, their concert coincides with their recently released cd – Cheek to Cheek.

  1. Enjoy David Sedaris! We saw him in Portland and his reading adds so much to his already hilarious stories. Thanks for the reminder of the DVF series. I will set to record. I just bought one of her basic wrap dresses and am so happy to finally add this basic to my wardrobe.
